: Missy: I am touched by the concern you show about your grandma. Generally 140/80 is considered normal blood pressure. Most people's blood pressure rises moderately with age. At 52 your grandma is rather young and 100/70 would be considered on the low side. It is recommended that every person over 50 gets regular checkups and if your grandma hasn't had one in the last 5 years she should do so promptly including her blood pressure.
: Keep watching over your grandma - they are precious and come only ones in a lifetime for a limited period of our lives.
Hello Missy,
The past advise that 140/80 is normal is incorrect. Most doctors will tell you that 120/80 is normal, but Dr. John McDougall who is a internal mecicine specialist in California claims that 110/70 is better. Please look up the McDougall program on the internet through www.google.com or go to your local bookstore and ask for the McDougall Program by Dr. John McDougall and read this book from cover to cover and you will find out the secrets of how to live a healthy life. This book will address blood pressure along with all other health related topics. I follow Dr. McDougalls advice daily and it has totally changed the way I think about advice given by doctors in general.
Good Luck with yours and your grandmothers health!
